Liner Notes

the record, in full

Capitol View — Nashville

McEwen Northside — Franklin

Forty-five acres, designed by TMPartners with Cooper Carry associating. TMPartners liked their own Block E enough to move their headquarters into it — architects living over the store.

CityPark — Brentwood

Brentwood, not Cool Springs — Cool Springs is a district, not a town, whatever the signage implies. And CityPark isn’t ground-up Boyle either: it’s a 2012 rework of an older office park, with H. Michael Hindman Architects on the retail transformation.

Meridian Cool Springs — Franklin

Sixty acres, more than 900,000 square feet — and Boyle’s own Nashville office sits inside it. A developer that’s a tenant of its own development believed its own brochure. I respect that.

Berry Farms — Franklin

Six hundred acres, developed with the Berry family, who held this land for roughly two centuries before a single foundation went in. Historical Concepts serves as town architect; Gresham Smith designed the Ramsey Solutions headquarters, HASTINGS the K-LOVE building, and Smith Gee the residential.

The Same Signatures

My credits across the five: architecture, retail, drone. And if you’ve read the rest of these case studies, you’ve met Smith Gee and Gresham Smith already — Nashville is a big city drawn by a fairly small set of hands, and I keep finding their signatures in my viewfinder.
